The Wave Rock!

We going to see the Wave Rock.

The Wave Rock is located 330 km south-east of Perth, and 4 km east of Hyden. Geologists believe the original formation was vertical, but has been sculptured and coloured by chemicals over 2.700 million years to take on its wave-like character. The "Wave" is not a seperate rock, but an overhanging wall more than 100m long on the northern side of a granite outcrop known as Hyden Rock. Wave Rock rises 15m above the ground like a giant wave about to break. For its full length, it is streaked with vertical bands of rusty red , ochre and sandy grey, simulating the rolling movement of the sea. These beautiful bands of colour are caused by "run-off"waters, charged with carbonates and iron hydroxide from the rock itself. When the water evaporates, the minerals are deposited on the slope.

Mulka's Cave!

The cave is found at the Humps, 21km from Hyden. The walls of the cave feature Aboriginal hand paintings.
